DUTIES OF A PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKER

The Home Support Worker (HSW) program prepares students to provide essential care and support to individuals of all ages, including those with cognitive impairments, physical disabilities, and mental health challenges. HSWs assist with daily living activities, ensuring clients’ comfort, safety, and overall well-being. They work in private residences, home care agencies, or as self-employed caregivers, offering personal care, companionship, and home management services.

PROGRAM OUTLINE

Students gain foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in:

  • HSW Foundations – Understanding client needs, rights, and interests.

  • Safety & Mobility – Assisting with transfers, positioning, and safe movement.

  • Body Systems – Basic anatomy and physiology.

  • Personal Hygiene – Supporting clients with hygiene care.

  • Abuse & Neglect Awareness – Identifying and responding to abuse situations.

After completion of all requirements, you will be able to take the HSW Final Certification Exam given by the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC).

Government Support – Increased funding for home care services has expanded job opportunities.
